Overview

02

Problem

The time-consuming process of manually searching for the match and then finding out the score. Users have to perform several actions to complete the goal of finding out the time and score of the game. Always trying to remember when the match will be - usually ends with having to search for the matches several times and reload.

Outcome

Using the power of widgets, I was able to reduce the total action steps needed to find the scores of your favourite team by 83%.

Why This Project?

Why This Project?

As a passionate football fan, I always find myself trying to find scores on the go. This usually feels like a tedious task. I am fascinated by the power of widgets and how much information we can get accross with little space. As a product designer, this felt like a good chance to tackle a real life problem and create an easy-to-use interface. After identifying what were the main content items one needs to accomplish this, I designed a widget to increase effeciency in complete the user goal while still maintaing The Premier League's core brand identity.

Design Principles

04

How might we enable the user to find out the scores and timings of future matches efficiently and conveniently?

How might we enable the user to find out the scores and timings of future matches efficiently and conveniently?

1. Removing additional information like assists, offsides, yellow cards, red cards, possession, and other data that does not help fulfill our user's goals.

2. Applying Gestalt’s Theory of Proximity - spacing of carefully curated information becomes essential to not make the user think!

3. Using the widget and carefully selecting what minimum information can accomplish
our user's goal - we can efficiently enable users to achieve their goals.

Reflection

05

Things learnt and next steps.

I have tried to utilize The Premier League branding and make use of the growing uses of widgets - which are recently released on iOS. I am a huge football fan and I saw a clear opportunity for improvement and making a positive impact with this product. While I found my changes to be successful, this was a project where a lot of decisions were made based on intuition and my own use cases/assumptions. I want to take this one step further by testing this with multiple people and for a variety of use cases. I would love to test my solution and figure out areas where I can still improve. This is a work in progress! I plan on iterating upon this project until my convictions can be proved by concrete user data.
